Did you know that Android is bragging about 2,000 Instagram App signups per minute right now? They’ve had over 1 million signups in the past 24 hours! For those fraction of people that don’t know what Instagram is, let me explain. Instagram is this nifty photo application that was only available on our beloved Apple platform up until yesterday. According to Instagram’s website, it’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family. We are confident that you already knew this but I felt the need to post just in case!
.) Are you interested in discussing the latest Instagram Android vs. Apple Instagram news with fellow fans? There are Instagram Meetups called InstaMeets that take place all over the nation! Go to meetup.com/instagram and find a meeting near you. Go to the link and click “count me in”. If you don’t see a group near you, feel free to start your own. The last time I looked there were 459 Instagrammers in the New York group, 358 in San Francisco and 285 in London! Check it out.
.) Want so download your Instagram photos to your Mac? If you haven’t been saving your photos to your iPhone, iPod or iPad and want a simple way to export them to your Mac/iPhone, check out this neat tool called Instaport Me at http://instaport.me./. It was built by a developer using the official Instagram API. Very cool.
.) Why is there so much news about Instagram across the web today? Glad you asked. Instagram is now available to Android users. Previously, it was reserved solely for iOS users. Android users are giving some serious love to Instagram with over 2,000 new users signing up every minute according to Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.
.) What does Apple gain from Instagram’s boost in publicity you ask? Well there is sure to be a boost in iOS Instagram downloads thanks to all of the increased exposure. There’s always a plus!
.) Just how many people use Instagram anyways? The blooming photo social media network is expected to reach 50 million subscribers within a few weeks. They currently sit around 30 million – that’s almost double!
.) How do Apple fans feel about the new Android release? The reaction varies across the board as expected. Some iPhone users are unhappy about the Android launch as they feel their beloved Instagram social network is being networked with an “inferior product”. Diehard iOS lovers took to Twitter to publicly voice their opinions as both Instagram and Android became trending topics.
.) Are there other photo based social media networks out there? There are many other social media networks based on photo editing and sharing. Some of the Android based ones include Picplz and Lightroom. Some argue that they are superior to Instagram with better features and photo filters. They also have large communities of fans.
.) Instagram is one of the most popular photo app’s to date on iTunes with a 5 star rating. There has been over 2300 ratings on the current version to date. Google Play users have given it a 4.4 rating and includes over 35,000 reviews.
.) Instagram first debuted in October, 2010 for the iPhone.
.) Why have people fallen in love with Instagram? This question could be answered in many different ways. The app allows users to add different custom filters to their photos in order to transform the border, mood, colors and tonality of their snapshots. The filters include: XPro-11, Rise, Amaro, Hudson, Lo-Fi, Sutro, Toaster, Brannan, Inkwell, Nashville, 1977 and others. In other words, they transform the mundane into beautiful which is always a hit!
.) Why is Instagram considered a social network? Instagram is considered to be a social network because users can give and receive likes, share and comment on uploaded pictures. You can also share your pictures to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tublr, Foursquare and Posterous. Social networks are defined as an online platform where people gather and interact with each other. Instagram definitely fits this mold.
.) If you are running iOS 4.0 or later on your iPhone you can double-tap on a photo to “like” it! You can also tap and hold on usernames to reply. That trick isn’t available in v1.0.
.) Another neat tip I’d like to share is for those of you that love to scroll through hundreds of pictures on your iPhone. Did you know there is a trick for going to the top of your feed automatically? Now you do! Tap the status bar at the top of your screen (where the time and battery level are displayed), to scroll to the top of your feed. You can also double tap the home tab.
.) Instagram has a cool blog where you can get all the latest and greatest Instagram news. It’s located at blog.instagram.com. Make sure you visit and subscribe! You can also visit them on Facebook and Twitter.
.) Last but definitely not least, did you know you can combine multiple photos into one? These apps allow you to do just that:
