17 Expected, and Dreamed About Features of the iPad 3

Written by iHospital. Posted in iHospital iV

To say a lot of buzz is floating around the net today about the iPad 3 would be a massive understatement.  Instead of jumping from blog to blog, we’ve decided to distill everything you need to know in one blog post.  Here’s the 17 latest and greatest expected and dreamed about features about the one and only, our favorite… the iPad 3

1. You won’t pay more for the iPad 3. It will cost the same as the iPad 2. According to 9to5Mac, Apple will not raise prices for their latest tablet and will keep its current pricing structure in place for all iPad 3 models.

2. The next iPad will include the coveted Retina display i.e. a screen that has a dpi (dots per inch) of 300 or greater as seen on the iPhone 4/4S. The first and second generation iPads feature a 1,024 by 768 pixel resolution touchscreen.  The new retina display will reportedly be 2048 x 1024 pixels, twice that of the iPad 2!  Ars Technica reported that it currently received web traffic from over 360 iPads that sported the new retina display which reinforces this rumor as well.

3. The next iPad will be available in two different screen sizes.  The current 9.7 inch model will remain the same but a new, smaller 7-inch model will be introduced.  This rumor has been shot down by many industry analysts.

4. It will come with a quad-core A6 processor. The iPad 3 is expected to include a new CPU that is expected to be called the A6.  The first generation iPad ran on a single-core A4 processor, and the second ran on a dual-core A5 processor.  This means the new iPad 3 will run significantly faster and use less power which will help in the battery life department.

5. The iPad will connect to 4G LTE networks via a Sprint-compatible tablet. The iPad 2 is only available in its 3G variation with AT&T and Verizon.  So yes, Apple will finally embrace 4G!

6. It will be 0.81 mm thicker than the first and second generation iPads.  According to ComputerWorld, Chinese bloggers have assembled several parts to see what the next iPad will look like and it appears to be thicker.

7. There has been issues getting the new iPad 3′s shipped from China. Shipping companies are grumbling that they are having a very difficult time getting their products shipped with rates rising 20%.  This leads us to believe the iPad 3 will become available shortly after its March 7th debut.

8. The new iPad 3 will sport a new anti-glare screen as well as its regular high gloss model.  This will help Apple become a major player in the electronic books market.

9. Gamers all over the world will rejoice with haptic feedback i.e. the iPad 3 will vibrate and shake in response to video games played on screen the same way home gaming consoles currently do.  This feature is already available on many android phones and tablets.

10. No home button?  Some say the next iPad 3 won’t have a home button and this rumor was fueled even more by Apple tilting the iPad in their launch invitation picture.  But, according to most industry pro’s, this rumor isn’t true.

11. It will be named iPad HD. According to CNET, the next iPad will be uniquely named the iPad HD.

12. The design will be nearly identical to the current iPad 2. An Apple employee told The New York Times that the next iPad is “essentially the same size and shape as the iPad 2. New pictures by MICGadget confirm this fact to be true and the differences are almost non-existent.

13. The iPad 3 will have a HD front camera and a 8-megapixel rear cam. A leaked photo shows a larger spot for the rear camera which means an upgrade is likely to be true. iLounge reported it will also feature an HD front-facing camera for FaceTime HD chat.

14. Yes, the iPad 3 will include Siri.  This would explain why iOS 5.1 hasn’t been released to the public yet as well.

15.  The iPad 3 will officially launch on March 7th, 2012 in San Francisco, California at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.  You’ll be able to purchase your iPad 3 on March 16th, 2012 as we previous wrote about in a previous post, Houston Apple Store to Launch on March 16.

16.  The new iPad 3 will come with a longer lasting, more efficient battery. This is great news as more and more people fall in love with watching movies on their beloved iPads.

17. Could we possibly see wireless charging?  iCloud cut the cord when it comes to wired file transfers but the iPad hasn’t fully untethered yet.  Apple holds the patent for Thunderbolt for iOS devices, and a Thunderbolt port could enable wireless charging.  This would cause Apple fans to rejoice around the world!

So there you have it, the 17 most expected, and dreamed about, features of the iPad 3 expected to debut on March 7th, 2012.  Are we missing any? Do you have some to add to our always expanding list? Please let us know in the comments below – we look forward to hearing from you!
