As you know every Friday we introduce you to one of iHospital’s awesome D.i.D. Doctor of iDevices. Last week you met Johnathan Keyser, this week we’d like to introduce you to the lovely Mindi Sewell (follow her on Twitter at @DrMindiDiD). She’s slightly obsessed with anything and everything Apple (aren’t we all?), and she’s even built an iPhone 4 from scratch! Talk about the full package!
What is your name?
Which store location(s) do you work at?
What is your favorite Apple Device and why?
Apple TV! I love it because everyone underestimates its abilities. The AirPlay functionality allows content from an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to display directly to an ATV. It
is always called Apple’s “hobby” project but I think it will become the next revolutionary device. The iPod changed the way we listen to music. The iPhone changed the way we surf the web, and make phone calls. The Apple TV will change the way we watch television.
What do you love about your job?
I love going through the whole processes of diagnosing an issue, repairing it, then returning the device to a customer “good as new!”
What do you think the iPhone 5’s best new feature will be?
I think the iPhone 5 will have a slightly larger screen – perhaps eliminating the physical home button. I don’t know what they could possibly come up with next….but whatever it is, I hope it’s easy to take apart and repair!!
What adjective would you use to describe yourself?
Tell me about your proudest moment at the iHospital?
Assembling an iPhone 4 from scratch! A customer brought in an iPhone (completely unassembled) in a ziplock bag…they tried to do their own customization but ended up
breaking a few parts in the process. I was able to use spare parts and put the iPhone completely back together!
What type of mobile phone do you own?
Cats or dogs?
Dogs – I have two
What was the first Apple device you ever purchased?
“Ti-Book” 12inch PowerBook G4
Rate yourself from 1 to 10. How weird are you and why?
I’d say I’m in the middle at 5 – I’m slightly obsessed with anything and everything Apple….I’ve been called “weird” or “crazy” many times because of it, but I don’t mind.
What are the first three things you did on your first day at work at iHospital?
1) Learned how to assemble a 3G/3GS display.
2) Learned how to replace an iPhone 4 display.
3) Learned how to scrub down an iPhone logic board when there’s liquid damage.
What’s the worst Apple Device damage you’ve ever seen? What was the story behind it?
I have seen a lot of broken Apple products but the worst was an exploded MacBook Pro battery! The damage was so bad it blew out of the external shell and you could see the innards of the battery.
What’s the funniest thing you have ever experienced?
It’s a long story!
If you could meet anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Without a doubt, Steve Jobs!
