Jawbone JAMBOX

Written by iHospital. Posted in iHospital iV

iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch Accessory – Jawbone JAMBOX  – $199.99 – Score: 4 IV’s

Jawbone Jambox speaker review

What is the Jawbone JAMBOX?

JAMBOX is a portable wireless speaker that you can attach to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.  It claims to be the “smallest, best sounding wireless speaker and speakerphone on the planet.”

What did you like about JAMBOX?

There are times when you are with a small group of people and something is missing. Conversation is steady and the topics are interesting, but there’s something that could add some flavor to your little get-together.

Look no further than the JAMBOX made by the reputable Bluetooth headset manufacturer, Jawbone. With the small size and solid construction of the unit, one will have a hard time not paying the $199.99 MSRP for the portable speaker. Upon handling the device, I instantly loved the feel of it without even turning it on, however after turning it on I discovered that it was even better than imagined. As you flip up the spring loaded switch on the side of the JAMBOX, the speaker whips to a start with a sound that could only resemble a larger speaker with more mass to it. Right after, the user is greeted by a lady with a lovely accent who dictates the status of the device to you. Whether it’s “JAMBOX is in pairing mode, waiting for device to connect,” or “Battery is full,” the software narrator gives you all the information you need to know.

In terms of sound, the device goes beyond the expected for a device of its size. Playing music brings out all the highs and lows that your heart could desire in a small setting. People immediately notice the subwoofer quality bass “thump” that comes from the tiny speaker. Another neat feature of the device is LiveAudio, a technology from Jawbone that allows for 3D sound. Once placed a couple of feet in front of the listener, the music is other worldly. There is really no way to accurately describe the experience of 3D sound. You have to hear to believe.
Place the JAMBOX into your car to use when needed at a campfire, picnic, or any other activity, or you can keep it around the house for casual listening around the kitchen or playroom. The convenient size of the speaker really makes for a versatile device that can be used in many situations.

While some users may not choose to partake in the possibilities, Jawbone actually offers software updates on their website for the JAMBOX with customizable voices and other sound enhancing tweaks here and there. You can even use the JAMBOX as a speakerphone for small meetings with its built-in Bluetooth microphone.

What didn’t you like about JAMBOX?

Purely said, the JAMBOX is awesome, but as with any consumer electronic, there are of course trade offs. The size of the JAMBOX does not allow for the loudest volume especially since one of the strong points is the sound quality, so no one is going to throw a house party with this speaker (look to the newly released “Big JAMBOX” for that). Any more than 6 people gathered for a social gathering and their conversation is going to drown out the music. Last, but certainly not least and at the forefront of the mind of the consumer: the price. $199.99 is a lot to pay for anything, let alone a portable speaker, so it takes many a person some considerable time to mull over whether the price tag is worth it.
