Twitpic vs Instagram

Guess who’s jumping on the free photo sharing bandwagon? That’s right, Twitpic! They officially launched the official Twitpic free app for iPhone today according to their blog. The android version should be released within the month, but we’re not too concerned about that right?

MacRumors is already comparing Twitpic to Instagram and we wanted to provide you with an official breakdown of the similarities and differences.  It’s tough to compete with Instagram as they were recently acquired for a billion dollars by social media behemoth Facebook, but you never know what can happen right?   • Both applications are free! You can’t get much better than that
  • Both applications are available on iTunes
  • Twitpic and Instagram allow users to share photos easily as they happen
  • Both apps allow you to view popular content across all users
  • Both apps allow you to create beautiful pictures with different filters
  • Both apps allow you to crop pictures
  • Instagram and Twitpic both allow commenting and refreshing features


  • Twitpic allows users to share videos
  • Twitpic allows you to sign in with Twitter, but you can only share your photos on Twitter
  • Instagram allows you to share you photos across Twitter, Facebook, Email, Flickr, Tumblr and Foursquare. Twitpic lacks broader social networking support
  • Instagram already has an Anroid application. Like I mentioned above, Twitpic is expected to launch an Anroid app within the month
  • Twitpic allows you to see photos and videos from people you follow on Twitter
  • Instagram was launched in October 2010 while Twitpic launched in 2008

Overall, Twitpic wants to provide a better experience for our users, and we think they are doing a great job.  Twitpic and Instagram offer many similar features but still are quite different. Instagram is integrated across many social networks while Twitpic is specifically designed for Twitter. What do you think? Will you be a Twitpicker?
