Best Practices for Travelling with Your Apple Devices

Written by iHospital. Posted in How To

Summer is almost here and our D.i.D. Doctor of iDevices wanted to share some tips and tricks for travelling with your Apple device such as your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPod.

Data Plan

Want to come home with a $3,000 data bill after your next vacation? That’s what could happen if you don’t adjust your network capabilities. Data roaming is one of the biggest dollar sucking features.  To adjust this, go to the Settings app, tap on General, and then Network.  Make sure Data Roaming is OFF.  This will allow you to make phone calls but won’t allow you to surf the web.

If you do use the web while globe trotting, turn off push email by going into Settings, tap on Mail, tap on Contacts and Calendars, tap on Fetch New Data and set Push to OFF.  You will still be able to check your accounts manually.

It’s also a good idea to check your local carrier’s data plans and international roaming as most have a variety of Global plans.  Make sure to check prior to your travel.

While travelling with your Apple device, you need to think about security risks such as having your device hacked while travelling through airports and other WiFi enabled areas.
