3 Ways to Keep Your iPhone 5 Safe from Hackers

Written by iHospital. Posted in iHospital iV

how to keep your iPhone safe from hackersWhen Apple announced the iPhone 5 to the world earlier this year, many people started asking, “how can I keep my iPhone 5 safe?”. This is largely due to the fact that more and more hackers getting a hold of iPhone users’ private information. A well known group of hackers called AntiSec claimed they hacked more than 12 million Apple device ID’s from an FBI agent’s computer; however, this claim was later deemed fake when Paul DeHart, CEO of a company called Blue Toad, said his business was the source of this information.

In the end, iPhone 5 users need to keep their Apple device ID numbers safe and secure because this number is linked to user’s names, cellphone numbers and addresses. Scary right?

Here are 3 ways to keep your iPhone 5 safe from hackers:

Keep your iPhone 5 safe by enabling a password. This is done by going to Settings>General>Passcode Lock. A new screen will appear and you’ll be prompted to enter 4-digit code and re-enter to confirm. You should also put a password on your SIM card to keep hackers from using your account.

iPhone Battery Draining Too Fast? Try Calibrating The Battery

Written by iHospital. Posted in How To

iphone battery drainingMany people are complaining that their iPhone batteries are draining too fast after they installed iOS 6.  Check out this thread in the Apple Support Communities for a long discussion on the causes and the remedies. The most common complaint is that after a full night of charging the battery to 100%, it drops to 75% or so within an hour with little or no usage.  Although this is perceived to be a common issue, it’s been noted that there are similar complaints each time a software update has been issued by Apple.

No matter the cause, it’s extremely frustrating to have an iPhone battery that dies quickly after a full charge.  One remedy is to calibrate your iPhone’s battery.  This should only be done after you’ve tried the following: resetting your network settings; turning off Bluetooth when not in use; disabling notifications, iCloud, location services, and usage reports. These settings are easy to adjust and should help retain your iPhone’s battery life.

What did you like about it?

Let’s get down to business. LostWinds is a game application by Frontier Developments Ltd.  It was originally a Wii game and has transformed into a great iOS game.  Your mission is to guide and protect a young boy named Toku.  Your mission is to release the curse placed upon the enchanting world of Mistralis by the evil Balasar.  This game includes beautiful images and will definitely take up hours of your time.

Control the game via touching and gesture driven movements.  Toku uses wind power to get around.  You can control the wind based on a mix of swiping and gestures.  You must swipe upward to propel Toku through the air

What didn’t you like about it?

The only downside of LostWinds is the short gameplay.  Once you finish it, the game becomes pretty boring.

Where can you get LostWinds?

You can download LostWinds for free this week in iTunes.  Make sure you get it prior to Wednesday as it will go back to regular price afterwards.

Passbook is Finally Good for Something! iOS 6 Passbook Now Supports Starbucks and More

Written by iHospital. Posted in iHospital iV

Passbook Enabled AppsDespite an overwhelming amount of negative press, Apple’s iOS 6 Passbook application is starting to gain some momentum among Apple fans.  This is largely due to the fact Passbook is now supporting a number of high-profile companies including Starbucks, Major League Basecall, Ticketmaster, Walgreens, McDonald’s, Airbnb and Eventbrite.  You can find a complete list of Passbook enabled apps here.

Starbucks is one of the most recognized brands that has decided to support Passbook.  Starbucks consumers can now pay for their java using Passbook as it will store their gift cards and use QR codes.  Leave the cash and credit cards at home.  We knew Apple and Starbucks were working together on the Passbook application due to Starbucks being prominently displayed in Apple’s marketing.  What’s even better is that Passbook is designed to make it easy for people to get right to their gift cards and coupons from the lock screen. It uses location and time information to pinpoint when a user is near a Starbucks and it puts a link to the Starbucks gift card right in the lock screen.

Separating Fact from Fiction Regarding Apple’s iPad Mini

Written by iHospital. Posted in iHospital iV

iPad Mini

The Internet is buzzing excitedly with rumors regarding the mysterious “iPad Mini”.  According to MacRumors, who references a sketchy report from Philip Elmer-Dewitt at Apple 2.0, Apple might be sending out invitations on October 10, 2012 to a major media event.  Based on historical Apple timeline data,  the said media event will take place approximately one week later and the iPad Mini will be introduced to the world.  Fortune is reporting that the iPad Mini could be available to the general public as early as November 2, 2012. Dewitt went on to say that this is a “rumor we have no reason to believe” except for the fact it came from a major Apple investor who still remains unknown to the general public.

Here’s what Dewitt had to say:

According to our source, who asked not be named, there appears to be some truth to the widespread rumors that Apple is preparing to launch a smaller and cheaper version of the iPad — often called the iPad mini or iPad air and usually described as having a 7.85-inch screen.  What our source adds is the specificity of a date: The press, he says, can expect invitations to go out on Oct. 10.

Additionally, the renowned Apple journalist Jim Dalrymple posted a vague message earlier this year regarding the iPhone 5, which was launched on September 12, 201, and the iPad Mini:
