Mac Hard Drive Failure

Computer hard drives are like tires on cars, and after a certain number of “miles” they will need to be replaced. It’s not a matter of IF a drive will fail, it’s a matter of WHEN. Typically, hard drives last 3-5 years with normal use before they need to be replaced, sooner if your computer has been dropped.

Hard drive and solid state drives fail over time through normal use, but can also be compromised by physical abuse due to dropping, liquid damage, or prolonged exposure to heat.

Here are a few indicators to a failing hard drive:

  • Sluggish performance/spinning beachball during normal use.
  • Unable to repair volume errors using the Disk Utility App.
  • Computer is slow to boot or does not boot past Apple logo.
  • Flashing Folder with “?” when computer powers on.

iHospital offers solid state and rotational hard drive replacements for all Apple Macintosh desktops and laptops/notebooks when your drive is failing. We also offer data recovery services to retrieve files from a Mac that is not in proper working order. This service usually requires more elbow grease when a computer is behaving with one of the symptoms listed above.

In the event that data cannot be saved by our in-store methods, we call on our data recovery specialist partners, Drive Savers to get the job done. Data recovery pricing through Drive Savers varies depending on the severity of damage, and full or partial recovery.
